Here are some things I loved during September 2021 (yes, this post is a little late, but life is busy like that!)
[AD - Press ticket] I was recently invited along to see Willy Russell’s legendary Blood Brothers at Mayflower Theatre, as part of its UK tour.
With online live streams and pre-recorded shows beaming straight into living rooms and onto all kinds of devices, we’re experiencing a whole new kind of theatre experience – often with the best seat in the house. One of the latest shows to grace our screens is Curve Leicester’s Sunset Boulevard In Concert – At Home.
[Press theatre tickets] Southampton's Mayflower Theatre has reopened its doors and is dipping its toes tentatively into the world of post-lockdown events.
NST Young Company has continued to conjure up new worlds and stories in both the absence of their theatrical home, and the challenging environment of lockdown.
The Edinburgh Fringe Festival is just one more cancelled event of 2020 – another calendrical casualty of COVID-19. Fortunately, thanks to the prevalence of online theatre filling the void left by temporarily empty stages, we don't have to entirely miss out.
This isn't an exhaustive list, and I've probably forgotten a few shows, but here are some of the TV shows, films and theatre screenings I've been enjoying during lockdown.
Southampton has so much to offer, both for visitors and residents alike, and I will never get tired of it. Spend more than a few hours exploring our streets, buildings and spaces, and you’ll find a place full of heart, community and creativity.
It's been a long time since my last theatre review. Over fifteen weeks, to be exact, which is the longest I've gone without stepping foot in a theatre auditorium – and writing about it – for two years at least.
This changed last night, however, when I found myself on a very unusual Zoom call; one like no other.
Two weeks ago, Nuffield Southampton Theatres (NST) was the first theatre to announce its fall into administration, after the blow of the Coronavirus pandemic took its toll on the cultural community.
