I’ve been to a fair few weddings this year, and invitations are already rolling in for 2020; it’s fair to say I have marriage on the brain.
Though I hasten to add, not my own!
I’ve been trying hard to get back into writing poetry after a slight hiatus and bad case of writer’s block. I think I used up all of my ideas and inspiration earlier in the year, but have been working hard behind the scenes in recent weeks on draft verses and phrases that will hopefully form something, somehow.
So, in a bid to get going again, I drafted a short, sweet and simple poem inspired by the all of the lovely ceremonies I’d been to this year, and in particular, the wedding of my cousin Jonathan and his beautiful new wife Emma!
It’s not going to win any prizes, and it certainly isn’t a patch on my last attempt at wedding poetry, but I thought I would share it anyway.
After all, not everything I write will be profound, perfect, or complex, but it will always be written with feeling.
Building Up To This
For Jonathan & Emma
up until this point
was simply building up to
and each one after
I agree that, yes, I do;
I do, in fact
wish to spend my life
making memories with you.
